SAY NO TO RAGGING: Ragging is any disorderly conducct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudenss to any student, indulging in rowady or undisciplined activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

PUNISHMENT FOR RAGGING: 1. Immediate FIR and Police Action 2. Imprisonment upto Two Years 3. Fine upto Rs.2.5 Lakhs 4. Ternination from College

College Rules

Code of Conduct for Students

  1. Students must always carry their Identity Cards with them for entering the college campus and hostels.
  2. No student shall disobey any order issued by the Institute, Head of the Department, Faculty Advisor, Co-ordinator First Year B.Tech., Advisors of various activities and teachers. They must behave with due decorum towards their teachers and fellow students. Girl students must be shown due consideration in this respect.
  3. No student shall indulge in any form of ragging of the fresher students, causing mental or physical agony or inflict monetary loss to them, harass them or indulge in any kind of obscenity, vulgarity or violence with them. Students found involved in any form of ragging are liable to severe disciplinary action, and shall be punishable under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code 1860.
  4. Students have no right to deny mess, club and other facilities to other students. The use of any such facility can be withdrawn only by the proper authorities.
  5. Students should not indulge in any type of unkind, indecent behaviour towards new entrants in the Departments, hostels, messes, sections or any other places. Students indulging in any unseemly behaviour towards new entrants will render themselves liable to strict disciplinary action as per clause (3).
  6. Students should not indulge in violence of any kind with fellow students, employees including teaching staff of the Institute and outsiders within or outside the Institute.
  7. Students must not take the law in their own hands but must report any grievance to the teacher, Faculty advisor, Head of Department, Warden, or other Officers as the case may be. Indulgence in violence by any student or group of students will render them liable to strict disciplinary action.
  8. Students are not allowed to become members of outside societies or allowed to join discussions of a political nature or to take part in any political activity without prior permission of the Institute.
  9. Students are not permitted to consume or take alcoholic drinks and harmful drugs like Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), Ganja, Charas etc. within the Institute campus including their hostels or outside in any restaurant / bar on outside official visits such as training/tour/camp/field work etc. Any infringement of this order or visiting any place declared out of bounds to students will result in disciplinary action against the students concerned.
  10. Students are warned against incurring debts or committing irregularities in financial matters. In all such cases, which tend to bring discredit to the Institute, disciplinary action will be taken. The Institute, however, will in no way be responsible for such debts or irregularities.
  11. No meeting of the students, other than those organized under the aegis of the various recognized students activities, shall be called and held without the prior permission in writing from the Director / Dean.
  12. No meeting/function within the Institute campus to which any outsider is invited shall be organized nor shall any outsider be allowed to address the students without the prior permission in writing from the Director / Dean of the Department / Administrator.
  13. No theatrical performance, dance or show of any kind shall be allowed either within or outside the Institute Campus /Hostels in the name of any society of the students except with the prior permission in writing from the Director/ Dean of Students' Welfare, who may prescribe the terms and conditions for such performance.
  14. No student shall by words spoken or written or by sign or visible representation or through internet or website or SMS offend or insult a fellow student or any Teacher of the Institute or any employee or Officer of the Institute. (Any form of ragging will also constitute an act of insult or offence on the person who is ragged).
  15. No student shall misappropriate, prefer false claim for financial assistance of any kind (indulge in financial irregularity of any kind), mutilate, disfigure or otherwise destroy or damage any property of the Institute including furniture, books, equipment, apparatus, building etc.
  16. No student shall keep/drive motor driven vehicle (car, motor cycle, scooter etc.) for commuting inside the campus during his/her stay at GCET/ GU. However a student residing in Campus -1 may be allowed to keep and use a motor driven vehicle with the specific approval.
  17. Students must pay all Institute, Mess, Club, Hostel Accommodations and other dues on or before the stipulated dates. If they do not do so, they render themselves liable to various penalties mentioned in the relevant instructions.
  18. Students must take care of and protect all Institute/hostel property. Any damage to Institute/hostel property due to improper use or negligence will have to be made good by the students concerned. Students must use the Institute/hostel furniture and fittings with due care and must not deface buildings, roads, furniture, fittings etc. in any manner. Not only the cost of the damaged Institute/hostel property will be recovered from the student (s) concerned, but disciplinary action shall also be taken.
  19. The campus in time for boys is 8.00 pm and Girls is 6.30 PM.
  20. Students should not fix posters, notices, pictures, or anything that might damage the surface of the walls/pillars of the buildings. They should not attempt to make duplicate keys of the Hostel rooms or any Hostel property therein.

Code of Conduct for Staff

  1. The staffs of an institute are the backbone and thus are required to maintain highest standard of institute by working hand-in-hand for the benefit of stakeholders.
  2. Every staff shall refrain from any activities which lead to social or communal disharmony in the institute.
  3. No staff of the institute shall associate with any political party and shall not assist in any political rally or movement.
  4. Legal action will be taken if any staff discloses confidential official papers or files to students or outsiders.
  5. Any type of leave facility can be availed with prior permission of the Director of the institute.
  6. The staff shall extend cooperation not only to the colleagues but also to the students to maintain an academic environment.
  7. The staff shall follow the hierarchy in order to get the problems resolved.
  8. The staff shall abide by the rules and regulations of the institute while performing the duties.
  9. The staff shall not misuse any article/material which is directly or indirectly in his /her supervision.
  10. For the benefit of the stakeholders, the staff may be asked to perform the duties beyond the usual timings of the institution.
  11. The technical staff of the institution may be asked to perform the duties related to administration/examination as and when required.
  12. The staff is expected to demonstrate higher standards by using his/her expertise for the growth and development of the institute as a whole.

Code of Conduct for Faculty

  1. The Faculty shall undertake and abide by the code of conduct with terms and conditions of service during the tenure. This shall serve as an integral part of the contract of employment with the College.
  2. The Faculty shall actively participate in academic affairs of the college and shall also execute work assigned to him/her by the Director/ Head of the Department from time to time honestly and sincerely.
  3. He/she may be given additional duty assigned by the HOD/Director of the College before or after the College hours to which a faulty must adhere to.
  4. The faculty shall actively involve himself/herself in all the College activities and programs irrespective of the Department he/she belongs to and shall also motivate students as well.
  5. A faculty shall take initiative outside classroom teaching in grooming his/her students by encouraging them, making them independent and associating themselves as responsible citizens.
  6. The faculty should strive for professional growth through study and research work and seek to maintain the academic integrity of the College in all respects.
  7. The college anticipates that a faculty to be dynamic in nature; should have active membership of professional organizations and strive to improve education true to its profession.
  8. He/she should actively participate at professional meetings, seminars, conferences etc., and play a leading role towards the contribution of knowledge.
  9. The Faculty shall not indulge in any organized anti-institutional activity and shall not promote, abet, assist or motivate any groupism or unhealthy activity.
  10. The faculty shall not coddle to any communal, regional or linguistic disharmony within classroom or the premise of the college.
  11. The Faculty shall report to the management, if there is any criminal complaint, action/proceeding lodged against him/her in any police Station, Court or Forum.
  12. The college takes pride in gender sensitivity and equal opportunities which should not be hampered in any way whatsoever.
  13. The Faculty undertakes not to carry on any other trade, business, or activity which defies the name and goodwill of the college.
  14. The faculty shall not indulge such as to raise/receive any money/donation within or outside the college without the permission of management.
  15. The Faculty shall not collect any money under any pretext from any one including students, except when he/she is specifically authorized by the Management in writing, for any particular fund raising program.
  16. The faculty under any circumstances should not harass or use unwanted language with the students, staff and workers.
  17. A faculty must maintain the line of protocol and any such grievances or enquiry should be conveyed as per the hierarchy of the college.
