The Department of VLSI and
Communication Technology is focused on emerging domains of semiconductor
technology, VLSI design, chip design and verification, advanced communication
technologies, and intelligent electronic systems. It brings together specialized
academic programmes designed to meet the growing demand for skilled
professionals in the semiconductor and next-generation communication sectors.
The department offers two
AKTU-affiliated undergraduate programmes: B.Tech. Electronics and Communication
(Advanced Communication Technology) [EC-ACT] and B.Tech. Electronics
Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) [EL-VLSI], each with an intake of 60 students.
The programmes provide focused learning in advanced communication systems and
semiconductor/VLSI technologies, supported by a strong foundation in
electronics and engineering principles.
The department follows a
student-centric, application-oriented approach integrating classroom learning
with laboratories, design activities, projects, industry exposure, and emerging
technological practices. Students develop skills in digital and analog VLSI,
semiconductor devices and fabrication, RTL design and verification, FPGA-based
systems, embedded hardware, wireless and next-generation communication, IoT,
and intelligent electronic systems.
A major focus is practical
competence in chip and system-level design. Through laboratories, simulation
tools, design projects, workshops, expert interactions, internships, and
hands-on activities, students are exposed to the electronic system development
cycle—from design and simulation to testing and implementation. Facilities are
progressively strengthened in line with developments in the semiconductor,
electronics, and communication industries.
The department promotes research,
innovation, and interdisciplinary learning in VLSI design and verification,
semiconductor devices and technology, electronic system design, advanced
wireless communication, embedded systems, digital signal processing, IoT, and
intelligent hardware systems. Students and faculty are encouraged to undertake
research-oriented projects, participate in technical events, develop
prototypes, and address contemporary engineering challenges.
Strong emphasis is placed on
industry–academia interaction and skill development through contemporary design
methodologies, professional tools, internships, expert lectures, workshops, and
technology-driven projects. The department also encourages innovation and
entrepreneurship by enabling students to transform ideas into prototypes and
technology-based solutions in semiconductor/VLSI, advanced communication,
embedded hardware, IoT, automation, and smart electronics.
The department aims to prepare
graduates for opportunities in semiconductor and VLSI industries, chip design
and verification, FPGA and embedded systems, electronics product development,
advanced communication technologies, research and development, higher
education, and entrepreneurship. Through focused education, experiential
learning, research, innovation, and industry engagement, it seeks to develop
technically competent, innovative, adaptable, and socially responsible
professionals capable of contributing to the advancement of semiconductor and
communication technologies.
